Microsoft Announces $10 Billion AI Data Centre Investment in Portugal
Microsoft Corp. is committing $10 billion to construct an AI data centre in Sines, Portugal, marking one of Europe's largest tech investments this year. The facility, developed in partnership with Start Campus and British startup Nscale, will bolster Microsoft's European footprint while positioning Sines as a strategic hub for digital infrastructure.
The announcement follows discussions between Microsoft President Brad Smith and Portuguese media during Lisbon's Web Summit. While the tech giant confirmed the investment figure, operational details remain undisclosed. Start Campus noted the funding aligns with phased development plans, including six planned buildings, the first of which launched in March.
